Morning news reported that the San Rafael Police Department in California has received a grant for a new program to promote traffic safety. It will go on through the entire year. The project hopes to educate people so injuries and deaths related to traffic won’t happen in the future.

The OTS (Office of Traffic Safety) awarded the San Rafael Police an amount of $129,992 after the city showed they focused all their efforts into a better quality of life and traffic safety measures.

This grant is a proof from the department that their hard work are not in vain. The commitment to maintaining the roads safe through education and enforcement is going stronger than ever.

Reports from the authorities show the number of fatalities related to traffic has lowered in the State of California. Officials say that although DUI deaths have declined a great deal, they remain the number one cause of traffic deaths.

The activities the awarded grant will target are numerous but mostly on motorcycle safety, red light running, drivers with revoked/suspended licenses, DUI offenders and speeding.
