Garden and Chef salads distributed by a Kentucky company have been recalled due to a potential Salmonella contamination, according to recent news sources.

The company, Thorntons, Inc., distributed the salads to stores in Chicago, Ill, Cincinnati, OH, Columbus, OH, Indianapolis, IN, Evansville, IN, Lexington, KY and Nashville, TN.

They come in a black bowl with a clear plastic lid and have a use by date of September 30, 2011, October 2, 2011, or October 3, 2011.

No illnesses have been reported in relation to this recall. It is believed that the grape tomatoes are the source of contamination.

Salmonella is a serious illness which can cause life-threatening symptoms in some people. Those especially at risk are young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms in healhy people include diarrhea, fever, nausea, and vomiting.

Consumers with a recalled salad can return them to the store of purchase for a full refund.

As a Bellevue personal injury attorney, consumer health is something that I am very conscious of and I know that even with tough rules and regulations on manufacturers mistakes can still be made. I encourage anyone who is experiencing the symptoms of Salmonella contamination to seek immediate medical attention. The personal injury lawyer at our law firm sincerely hope that no one has been sickened by consuming the recalled salad product.

True Leaf Farms has expanded the recall of their romaine lettuce to include 19 states and Canada, according to recent news reports.

About 2,498 cartons are subject to recall due to a fear of Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The FDA requested to expand the recall to include Alaska, Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Vermont, as well as Alberta, Canada.

All of the affected product has a “use by” date of September 29, 2011. No illnesses have been reported in relation to this recall.

Listeriosis is a serious illness that can be life-threatening in some cases. Especially at risk are young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Listeria contamination is also dangerous to pregnant women, as it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths.

As a Renton personal injury attorney I have seen food recalls like this one and know that, with as much testing goes into food products before manufacturers send them to market, mistakes can still be made. The personal injury lawyer at our law firm hopes that you and your loved ones will not be sickened by the recalled romaine lettuce. Please come back to our blog often to stay informed about new recalls.
