Smoked Salmon Recall Extended, Possible Listeria Contamination

According to several news sources, the recall for “transOCEAN Wild Alaska Sockeye Smoked Salmon” has been extended. The allegedly contaminated product with the lot numbers 1280W and 1293W has the potential of being a source of Listeria monocytogenes. This highly risky organism may cause fatal infections in fragile elders, young children and individuals with weak immune systems.

Doctors claim that this infection may also cause miscarriages and may pose a health threat to pregnant women.

The reports from the FDA assure consumers that this specific lot of salmon was distributed to New Hampshire, Massachusetts, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland but that it may have made its way across the rest of the Country.

The FDA reported that the affected salmon was claimed to be a risk to consumers’ health by the manufacturer and that the current recall does not affect other products by the same company in any way.

Personal injury lawyers in Seattle are glad that the company was quick to respond to a problem that could have turned out to be a product liability issue.

As a Seattle personal injury attorney, I hope that all consumers who may have had purchased this item will return it immediately. This type of infection could be deadly to many, the health hazard is great so don’t delay.

Undeclared Allergen, the Cause Behind The Semita de Piña Recall

News sources have declared Rio Grande Imports Inc. has issued an allergy alert recall for Semita de Piña, a pastry filled with pineapple jam sold in individual packages due to undeclared dairy among the ingredients.

All consumers who happen to have a serious allergy or some type of sensitivity to milk and derivatives are urged to make sure they will not consume this product. The FDA announced the recall along with the company after the New York State Department of Agriculture took a sample into the laboratory for testing so an evidence of the presence of milk in the product could be obtained.

The product is packed in clear plastic overwrap and the name El Triunfo is printed on its label. The code of the recalled item is 11-22-11. No case of illness was allegedly reported regarding the consuming of the recalled products.

As a Bellevue personal injury attorney I hope that this post has made readers nationwide aware that undeclared allergens can represent a major risk. Consumers must be aware of the risks linked to the consumption of products containing undeclared ingredients.

For the case of an eventual personal injury case related to contaminated food products, don’t hesitate in contacting a personal injury lawyer that will help you to get the justice you deserve.

Recall Issued For Black Bean Tortillas

According to recent news from various outlets, the company United Natural Foods, Inc. is issuing a recall of black bean tortillas in the State of California. This is yet another case of possible botulism bacteria contamination to haunt the press.

The Rhode Island-based company announced along with the Food and Drug Administration that there hasn’t been any illnesses reports linked to the consumption of this item but they have decided to go along with the recall anyway.

The reports from the different articles have stated that the recalled item was distributed to Safeway stores. Although this was not a nationwide recall, I believe readers should be aware of any food recall that goes on even only in a local scale. We never know when products that might have been recalled in the past will make it to our table.

As a Seattle personal injury lawyer, I hope that nobody will get sick from consuming contaminated food products. Unfortunately, more often than ever, personal injury attorneys have to deal with sad cases of individuals who fall fatally ill after consuming contaminated products poorly inspected by the manufacturers.

Don’t delay and call your attorney right away.

Products from Unsanitary Washington State Facility to be Seized by U.S. Marshals

The U.S. Marshals were requested by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration office to seize food products, according to the news. A Washington-based facility kept a processing and food storage location that was claimed to be unsanitary for the State’s standards. According to official reports, the warehouse was inspected by the FDA. The investigators found a very active infestation of rodents and insects in both warehouse and processing areas.

The first letter issued by the FDA regarding this problem was filed on September 29th. It claimed that the food being kept in the Washington State facility was possibly adulterated, taking into account the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act. The complaint asked for a speedy action from the Court. A warrant was issued on the same day for the U.S. Marshals to be allowed to take hold of all products present in the facility.

According to the FFDCA, after amended by the FDA Food Safety and Modernization Act, the FDA may order the detaining of all types of food during inspection, specially when food adulteration or misbranding is suspected to have taken place.

As a Kirkland personal injury lawyer I’m happy with the fact that the FDA is upholding a competent food inspection nationwide. Sadly enough, many personal injury lawyers are familiar with cases related to severe illnesses of individuals exposed to contaminated food products. Don’t hesitate in contacting a lawyer if that has been your case.

FDA Issues Letter Addressing Contaminated Cantaloupe Concerns

According to recent news and a report issued by the Food and Drug Administration, producers, processors and shippers of fresh cantaloupe melons must make sure that all guidelines outlined by the FDA in the wake of the Listeria outbreak will be followed thoroughly.

The FDA issued a letter earlier to all cantaloupe melons and produce companies recommending the best practices to eradicate the contamination of products with the Listeria monocytogenes.

Not too long ago, a Listeria outbreak started with the consumption of contaminated melons according to reports from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It was concluded that the cantaloupe industry should review all their operations so future outbreaks could be entirely prevented.

By October 25th, there were 139 alleged confirmed illnesses directly linked to the consumption of the contaminated melons. Sadly enough, 29 deaths associated with this outbreak were also reported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Many companies have taken precautions addressing food safety concerns, but the issue hasn’t been completely erased from the agency’s fears.

As a Seattle personal injury lawyer, I hope that all victims of this outbreak will have a speedy recovery. Personal injury lawyers are familiar with the tragic consequences of the consumption of contaminated food are always updated when it comes to recall news.

Don’t hesitate in contacting an attorney if you ever need to have your questions answered.

Bagged Spinach Recalled Due to Salmonella

In a press release, Church Brothers, LLC, in conjunction with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), announced the voluntary recall of their 2.5-pound bags of clipped spinach due to the potential presence of Salmonella.

This recall is all 2.5-pound bags of clipped spinach contained in clear packaging and marked with the manufacturer code A279 47166 and “best by” date of 23 October of this year. The recall was initiated as a precautionary measure after a random USDA Microbiological Data Program sampling test procedure revealed a single bag to be positive for Salmonella. Neither the FDA nor Church Brothers has received any reports of illness in relation to this recalled spinach.

Salmonella is an organism that can result in severe and occasionally fatal infections in young children, the elderly or those with otherwise weakened or compromised immune systems. Healthy individuals that are exposed to Salmonella may experience symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

Steve Church, of Church Brothers, stated, “We are cooperating closely with the US Food and Drug Administration and California Department of Public Health to ensure prompt removal of product associated with the recall. While we are not aware of any illnesses associated with this product, it is important that we act quickly based on random sample results in order to reduce any risk to public health.”

Consumers are being urged to either destroy or return the potentially contaminated product to the company.

As a Federal Way personal injury attorney, I’ve seen recalls similar to this in the past and the devastating effects they can have on those affected by the contaminated food product. If you’ve been injured through the consumption of a contaminated food product, contact an experienced personal injury lawyer to discuss your legal rights as a consumer.

Fresh & Easy Spinach Recalled Due to Possible Listeria

In a press release, Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market Inc, in cooperation with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), announced the voluntary recall of their fresh-bagged Washed Spinach 12-ounce bags due to the possible presence of Listeria monocytogenes.

This recall was initiated after a random, routine test sample taken by the FDA was found to contain Listeria. The recall is being issued out of an abundance of caution on behalf of Fresh & Easy and the FDA. Neither the company nor the FDA has received any reports of illness in relation to this recall. The recall affects only the 12-ounce bags of Washed Spinach with the barcode 20001124 and an “enjoy by” date of October 16 of this year. The product was available in Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market stores located across the western United States.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that, if ingested, can result in severe and occasionally fatal infections in young children, the elderly and those with compromised or otherwise weakened immune systems. Healthy consumers may experience symptoms like high fever, serious headache, stiffness, nauseas, abdominal pain and diarrhea if they are exposed to Listeria. The organism can also lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.

Consumers are being urged to immediately dispose of the product and contact the company with their receipt for a full refund.

As a Renton personal injury attorney, I’ve seen similar recalls in the past and know the devastating effects they can have on those affects. If you’ve been injured through the consumption of a contaminated food product, speak with a personal injury lawyer in your city to learn more about the legal options available to you.

CooperVision Complies with FDA Request

In a news release, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that CooperVision, a division of Cooper Companies Inc, has complied with their request for a widen recall effort of their Avaira Toric contact lenses.

CooperVision initiated a recall of their Avaira Toric contact lenses in August, however faced pressure from the FDA because the agency believed that the company had not done enough to educate the public of the recall. The FDA has since announced that the company has come into compliance with their request.

FDA spokeswoman Morgan Liscinsky said, “CooperVision’s public communications are consistent with the agency’s expectations. The FDA will continue to monitor this recall’s effectiveness to ensure that the affect devices are removed from the marketplace and not used by consumers.”

Whether the move by CooperVision is based solely on the FDA request or was monetarily based, the company saw a stock decrease of almost $5 a share Monday, though the stock remains up 23 percent for the year, has not been commented on by either the FDA or the company.

As a Bellingham personal injury attorney, I’ve seen many similar recalls in the past and am glad that the appropriate steps have been taken to inform the public of this situation. If you’ve been injured through the use of a defective product, it may be in your best interests to contact a personal injury lawyer to learn more about the legal avenues open to you.
