Possible Steering Problems Push Toyota to Issue Another Recall

According to many different news outlets, Toyota has issued another recall. This time for 420,000 cars in the United States alone after they noted a possible steering problem with some vehicles.

According to their reports, this is a safety recall to replace an item the company claims to be the crankshaft pulley that is part of the V6 engine. The issue can cause the wheel to become hard to handle. So far, the problematic steering malfunction affects 550,000 cars all over the world, it must be corrected immediately or the outer ring and inner ring of the pulley will become misaligned, which will cause noises and lights to signal warnings.

According to the official reports, the belt for the steering pump can become detached as well, which will cause the wheel to become rough. Injuries or serious accidents have not been reported regarding this issue according to an official release from Toyota until this moment.

This is yet another recall for Toyota. Since September 2009, the company has issued over 13 million product recalls in the U.S. alone.

As a Seattle car accident lawyer I urge all car owners to be specifically aware of possible recalls involving the brands of vehicles they own. Many personal injury lawyer are familiar with cases related to drivers who couldn’t control their vehicle due to technical difficulties that should have been prevented by a quality inspection from the carmakers.

Pourable Gel Fuel Recalled Due to Flash Fire, Burn Hazards

In a news statement, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in conjunction with Evergreen Enterprises, announced the voluntary recall of the company’s Fireside Gel Fuel Bottles due to the potential burn and flash fire hazards they present to consumers.

This recall affects approximately 23,400 bottles of Fireside Gel Fuel in 30-ounce bottles. The gel fuel was available with and without citronella. They can be identified by the words “Fireside”, “Gel Fuel”, “Evergreen” and “Flag & Garden” that appear on the container labels. The recall only affects the bottles sold in cases of 12. The gel fuel is intended for use in stainless steel or ceramic cups in the center of ceramic and glass firepots for ignition. The gel fuel was available at independent retailer nationwide from December 2010 through September 2011.

The pourable gel fuel was found to ignite without warning and splatter onto people and nearby objects when added to an already-lit firepot. The burn and flash fire hazards exist when the consumer is unaware or unable to see that the firepot is already lit. Neither the CPSC nor Evergreen Enterprises is aware of any injuries that have occurred in connection with this recall.

Consumers are being urged to immediately stop using the gel fuel and return the bottle to the company for a full refund.

As an Olympia personal injury lawyer, I’ve seen similar recalls in the past and understand the severity of the dangers they pose to consumers. If you’ve been injured through the use of a defective product, it may be in your best interests to consult a personal injury lawyer in your area.

CooperVision Complies with FDA Request

In a news release, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that CooperVision, a division of Cooper Companies Inc, has complied with their request for a widen recall effort of their Avaira Toric contact lenses.

CooperVision initiated a recall of their Avaira Toric contact lenses in August, however faced pressure from the FDA because the agency believed that the company had not done enough to educate the public of the recall. The FDA has since announced that the company has come into compliance with their request.

FDA spokeswoman Morgan Liscinsky said, “CooperVision’s public communications are consistent with the agency’s expectations. The FDA will continue to monitor this recall’s effectiveness to ensure that the affect devices are removed from the marketplace and not used by consumers.”

Whether the move by CooperVision is based solely on the FDA request or was monetarily based, the company saw a stock decrease of almost $5 a share Monday, though the stock remains up 23 percent for the year, has not been commented on by either the FDA or the company.

As a Bellingham personal injury attorney, I’ve seen many similar recalls in the past and am glad that the appropriate steps have been taken to inform the public of this situation. If you’ve been injured through the use of a defective product, it may be in your best interests to contact a personal injury lawyer to learn more about the legal avenues open to you.
