According to recent news articles, an accident involving an off-duty sheriff’s deputy and an alleged drugged driver sent both motorists to the hospital. The accident happened near Lake Elsinore around 7:30 in the morning. A 66-year-old man was driving westbound on Highway 74 when his Toyota Prius drifted off to the opposing traffic lanes.
According to the official reports from the California Highway Patrol, his Prius vehicle collided head-on against a Honda Civic driven by an off-duty Orange County sheriff’s deputy.
Witnesses claimed that the driver had been previously seen weaving in and out of his lane on the road just before the wreck. A spokesperson from the California Highway Patrol stated that the 66-year-old driver was under the influence of narcotics and that both drivers were taken to the local hospital as soon as the authorities arrived at the scene.
As an Orange County car accident lawyer, I’m saddened to hear that this accident was likely caused by intoxicated driving. I hope both drivers are able to experience a speedy recovery. I’m glad to hear that no one else was involved in this wreck. When you are intoxicated and you drive you’re not only putting yourself at risk, but also the safety of others.
