Three Teens Injured After Crash Just Southeast of Tacoma

According to several local news sources, an accident just southeast of Tacoma sent three teens to the Hospital.

The official reports from the Washington State Patrol show that the vehicle driven by an 18-year-old driver crashed into a pole on Highway 161 causing severe injuries to one of the passengers. The accident happened sometime around 12 a.m. on Thursday without involving any other vehicle.

The Washington State Patrol spokesperson stated that alcohol is likely the cause behind this accident. Officers say the driver will probably be charged with vehicular assault. Details regarding how the accident came to be were not disclosed by the authorities. The WSP is still investigating the case.

As a Tacoma car accident lawyer, it saddens me to hear about accidents involving drunk driving. This accident could have been avoided if the drunk teenage driver was in a sober state of mind and aware of his surroundings. I hope the three teens quickly recover from any injuries sustained in this incident. It is now up to the legal system to decide what charges the young man will be faced with.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a drunken driving accident, contact a personal injury lawyer in your region right away.

‘Start Smart’ Driving Classes Focus On Educating Teen Drivers

According to several news articles released in the State of California, there have been over a thousand crashes caused by teen drivers in the past year.

This tristful fact has pressed the California Highway Patrol to act. According to the article, a campaign to bring education and awareness comprehending road safety and traffic laws has just begun and it is completely focused on teen drivers from all over the state.

The program is called ‘Start Smart’ and it’s a set of lessons destined to teens that are still unaware of most dangers they will face while driving. Among many other subjects, young drivers will learn unique collision avoidance techniques, correct rules, traffic laws and proper driving etiquette.

The troopers hope young drivers will have a better start after learning how to properly handle the responsibility of driving a vehicle. The focus is to keep the statistics from climbing any faster and preparing teen drivers to face the major dangers the road can present them in the future.

As a Los Angeles car accident lawyer and a parent I hope that this program will educate teen drivers extensively so a whole generation of aware and alert drivers can make the roads in California much safer.

Whenever you or a loved one is involved in an accident related to the reckless driving of others, contact a personal injury lawyer and have all your questions regarding personal injury cases answered right away.

Raw Cookie Dough Behind E. Coli Outbreak

According to several news sources, dairy products or raw eggs didn’t cause the recent E coli outbreak across the nation like the authorities previously thought. Studies prove that raw flour present in prepackaged cookie dough was the real responsible resource of contaminated material.

The study was conducted by the Clinical Infectious Diseases journal and it discovered that the outbreak from 2009 of E. coli originated with the cookie dough that is distributed in several stores nationwide. The news show that over 70 people were allegedly reported to carry illnesses related to the contamination.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating the ingredient that is responsible for the contaminated cookie dough. Researches firmly believe that the raw flour is the only ingredient that may have gone under the radar while carrying the E. coli bacteria since eggs, sugar and molasses go through a process that kills several pathogens while raw flour doesn’t.

As an Olympia personal injury lawyer I urge all consumers to follow all recall news up closely. If you’re the victim of the negligence of a company that has produced contaminated food items before and that has risked your life or the life of a loved one, do not hesitate and contact a personal injury lawyer to answer to all of your questions regarding your personal injury case.

Effectiveness of Ban Against Cell Phones While Driving Put to Test

Personal injury lawyers understand that using the cell phone while one’s behind the wheel can cause severe or even fatal accidents. Talking or texting while driving isn’t just a distraction, it’s a life-threatening risk.

Even though we are all very aware of these facts, the ban on cell phone use hasn’t been allegedly proved to be as effective as we once thought it would be. According to many news sources, the evidence is simply not conclusive. The reports from the many authorities investigating this show no significant change in the number of crashes due to less cell phone usage on the road.

The news have also stated that the number of cell phones in use since the year of 1990 went from 4 million to 322 million but the number of general car accidents has lowered.

The States where the cell phone usage was banned have seen no difference in the number of crashes, reports the Highway Loss Data Institute. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has noticed an increase in accident claims from drivers hiding their texting because of the ban.

As a Seattle car accident attorney, I understand that distracted driving can lead to many fatal accidents but maybe all we need is some more time to really understand the consequences of the cell phone ban.

Whenever a loved one is involved in an accident that was caused by a distracted driver, don’t hesitate and contact a personal injury lawyer right away.

GFS Sugar Recalled Due To Mislabeling

According to news sources, an unknown amount of the 12-ounce GFS branded sugar has been recalled due to a mislabeling of the product. Instead of sugar, the recalled canisters contain powdered non-dairy creamer, which potentially can pose serious or life-threatening risks to those with sensitivity towards milk based products.

The company, Diamond Crystal Brands, recalled the product since it contains a powdered milk derivative called sodium caseinate that may pose significant risk to consumers with a particular sensitivity towards dairy products. The recalled canisters have a lot number G293 B and have the words NON-DAIRY CREAMER printed on the label.

It is unclear where exactly the products were distributed or how many were a part of the recall.

Concerned consumers with the recalled product should contact the company at 800-654-5115 with any questions or for more information.

FDA Revokes Approval of Breast Cancer Drug Avastin

According to news sources, the Food and Drug Administration has revoked a previous approval to give Avastin market access to breast cancer patients through its accelerated approval program. The program allows the FDA to revoke drug approvals if clinical trials do not show drug effectiveness.

The FDA’s accelerated program allows drugs to gain market access to patients while clinical trials are ongoing. In the case of Avastin, it was found that the drug did not show effectiveness or benefit to patients with metastatic breast cancer. In fact, the drug was found to have several harmful side effects, including but not limited to heart attack, bleeding, hemorrhaging and high blood pressure.

The National Breast Cancer Coalition came out in support of the FDA’s decision. The drug will remain in the market place for patients suffering other forms of cancer, while Medicare has said that it will continue to pay for the drug in its usage against breast cancer.

Several studies have found that the drug does not help prolong the lives of the patients who take it.
